The Cleft of Dimensions is probably the best MUD that currently
exists.

We are the best because the staff spends all their time trying to
figure out how to make playing the game as fun as possible. We have
diverse and challenging quests, and we have tons of them. Our
character classes are actually different from each other. Combat is
interesting and balanced. The game world is an amalgamy of areas
from all sorts of video games plus original areas. And I really do
mean all sorts: Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Tactics
Ogre, Super Mario World, Mega Man, Ocarina of Time - even things as
esoteric as Zork and River City Ransom. We have roleplaying, we have
holiday events, we even have the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo.

We're the only game in the world where you, an alien, and some
oysters can team up to fight superpowered pokemon. There's no other
MUD where'd I'd rather spend my time, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I have played several MUDs

I have played several MUDs that kinda just leave one in the dark. By that I mean from my MUDing experience commands and help files are loosely explained and the descriptions are generic(This is horrible for someone as oblivious as me). COD(Cleft of dimensions) Has updated help files for skills, spells, classes etc...and the commands are obvious. The descriptions are for the most part anything but vague.

The fun things that the staff has done with simple text is nothing short of impressive. Scenario! Your on your way to kill Kain and you are hungry right before you were gona strike him down. You can simply pull out a cell phone and call in Chinese Takeout and have it delivered to you in his domain.

The players and staff have constant open communication and suggestions are considered and sometimes applied to the game. Not to mention the game is constantly being rearranged, updated, and and new areas are periodically added.(I'm sure atleast one staff member is is tampering with the game to improve it as you read) They have made the classes each their own but evenly balanced and one class is not necessarily "stronger" then another, there's just a different style to each one.

In this game is a diverse world improbable(not impossible but so far it would seem so) for one to entirely uncover and say "I have seen it all!" because frankly I don't think that there is a dedicated player in the game who actually has.

This is in my opinion not only the best MUD but possibly the funnest game I've ever played.

Here's some more reasons to play our game

In case you weren't sure why you should play the Cleft of Dimensions, here's some good examples of how we're different from the competition, presented in a list format for easy digestion!

  • Our areas and races are inspired by classic console RPGs, for that tasty nostalgia flavor.
  • Our tutorial area is custom-made for our game. Some players have said it's the best they've seen.
  • All but a handful of our skills and spells are completely original and home-made.
  • None of our classes are stock, and each one was developed from the ground-up with a particular playstyle in mind.
  • Our staff spends all their time trying to figure out how to make the game more fun, especially for new players.
  • New content gets added all the time at ALL level ranges, not just for people who are already max level.
  • Once you get to level 100, you get to 'remort' and start over with an expanded race selection and the option to carry over one skill to your new character.
  • We have a very straightforward 'talk' command that lets you converse with just about every NPC and even monster in the game.
  • Quests are more than 'kill six snow moose' or 'fetch the macguffin'. A treasure map, a scavenger hunt, and an escort assignment and are all doable -- at level 1 in the starting town!
  • Mobs do more than passively fight in melee; lots have a custom fight script. Bosses are exceptionally complex. Some aren't even fought conventionally, but have to be shot with cannons, pushed off a cliff, etc.
  • We have a wiki that spills out all sorts of information about the game, and it isn't clogged with a tiny article for each individual skill, either.

Come and play! You will probably be pleasantly surprised.

Unbeatable.

Having been playing CoD for about three to five years now (where DOES the time go?!), I can't play another MUD. Not meaning that all the other MUDs suck, it's just that...

Well, how many MUDs lets a Hylian, a Reploid, a Koopa, and an Esper team up against Culex; or places you in the middle of the Monotoli Building attempting to convince a Mr. Saturn to let you in to see his boss? What about tangling with Shy Guys beneath Booster's Tower? Do you get to chase a Katamari around, trying to wack it down to size?

...No? I didn't think so either until I played CoD.

Currently they have five basic classes, each with two sub-classes that one can choose at level thirty: Knights -> Templars/Cavaliers; Thieves -> Ninja/Merchant; Wizard -> Sorcerer/Warlock; Priest -> Surgeon/Shaman; and Summoners that can choose either a Dollmage or Necromancer.

The neat thing here is pretty much every class plays quite different than all the others. Heck, even the differences between a pair of sub-classes (Sorcerer/Warlock) is quite pronounced! (Explode things before they explode you vs curse things to where they can't explode you.)

Now let's be honest here: A MuD has problems, no matter how good it is. Even CoD has a problem. Then again, is there such a thing as being too good? Give it a try, I doubt you'll be disapoinnted.
